What does it mean to you to be recording for the Global Underground label?
- I'm happy to be working with Global Underground. The track I was given is really great and reminds me a bit of my own productions actually. I enjoyed working with the parts and I think the mix worked out well.
What is your earliest/favourite GU related memory?
- I guess it would be all the rave parties in the 90's where a lot of the parties had GU headliners. Crazy times back then!! I'm happy I made it here alive.
What kind of sound do you hope to bring to the label?
- The funk!
Tell us a little about how this single/remix came about – inspiration, where it was made, what you wanted to achieve with the vibe etc.
- Having good parts to work with is the most important thing about doing a remix. With this track all the parts are really strong so that itself was the inspiration. I loaded bass synth line up then re did it on the System 100, shortened the progression a bit and made a few changes. The pads I used the original sounds and pitched them and added some VCA envelopes to make it sound like they are reversing a bit. The higher parts of the monosynth line I dubbed out to make a progression into the breakdown of the track and the high hats I used untouched. It was done in my Berlin studio where most of my work has been done over the last 3 years and I think the point was to make something fun to dance too.
How do you stay on top of all things digital, from downloads to DJ equipment? Do you enjoy how quickly it is constantly changing?!
I'm not actually very current with my understanding of technology. I'm only just learning how to use Logic for instance but I'm enjoying it and it is a powerful tool. I wish the digital world changed faster actually. It still has some catching up to do when it comes to sound.
Which date are you particularly looking forward to any why?
I'm most exited about the Midnight Operator shows. Its a project my brother (Hrdvsion) and I have. I can't describe how happy it makes me to be on stage with him making music!
What other plans do you have for the summer?
My summer starts in India in February! I will take a couple of months at my house in Goa with my girlfriend as I did last year. Its how I unwind after a busy tour schedule. After that the European summer starts and its back to work. A Cobblestone Jazz album is in the works and there will be more singles from myself and Hrdvsion on Wagon Repair. Right now I'm trying not to plan so far in advance and just get to India!
